I was sent a meme with the caption that read, “ My brain has too many tabs open, four of them are frozen and I have no idea where the music is coming from.” Sound familiar? When did running on empty become a virtue and a necessity. The buzz word was “multitasking” and not only was it a skill but a demand. Scientists have since sounded the alarm that multitasking is not positive, and leads to actual inefficiency and inattention.
Winston Churchill was a leader of exceptional abilities. It was said that he needed only four hours of sleep and kept two sets of staff going as his astonishing brain processed literally under fire. He was intelligent, had naval experience, saw the benefits of innovation and science, and set up Bletchley Circle that saw the best of the highly intelligent employed to work on complexities. He led a country to victory without being self-serving. He was an eloquent speaker and a true statesman, the like of which has not been seen since and sadly, now only money and power, greed, and ignorance are the attributes of politicians.
One has to wonder at all the distraction. While the meme is amusing, the intention has been to distract us from the machinations of those who are the puppeteers. Erode education. Sell a bill of goods without substance and like a cat lured by the red dot they can never catch, we have lost ourselves, our ability to think and to process what has been taken away from us by giving us the tools of our own destruction.
