I have come to revel in your wonderful explorations of words I know, but want to know better. This is a particularly resonant one because these times require mettle of all of us. I loved this! I thank you! I will never think of mettle in quite the same way, and I'm blessed because of it.
My dear ether buddy…. I commented on an American post about a man of limited means seeing a young mom with a baby at a laundromat not having enough change for the machine… he stepped up and thereafter every Monday leaves quarters in the machines with a note —-paid, keep warm. The post went on to say he witnessed a kid in a hoodie come in and place a quarter in the machine and the mayor left $20 of credit.
I replied that as a Canadian reading American news and dealing with the fallout of the current administration that it was sometimes hard to remember that good people are are still trying and that a pebble of kindness tossed into an ocean of despair still has an effect.
I got one reply saying (abbreviated expletive) why do Canadians always think it is about them? Ouch!
This morning there were 128 likes for what I said. I CANNOT begin to feel the despair, the helplessness, the disappointment that this admin is not representing them, their values nor making their country remotely recognizable.
Hands across the border and prayerful hands that there is hope to have trust again. I value you. T
While it is important to laud those who continuously summon the strength and courage to stand up after being knocked down, there are clearly times when one is much better advised to stop repeating behaviours which only result in similar outcomes. Those are time when one's "mettle" should direct, advise and support a giving up . . . and selecting a different path or choice. That takes mettle as well!! We are, for the most part, "masters of our fate and captains of our souls" . . . not simply preprogrammed automatons who slavishly adhere to some seldom understood directive to keep getting up, repeat the same behaviour and get knocked down again. We are sentient creatures whose real success often depends on persevering by making better choices.

I value you equally and may we keep pouring heart and soul into the beauty that still exists, which builds the trust we need for life. <3

Keep on keeping on the way that works for you.
As long as it WORKS for you!!
Have you EVER known me not to come back up spitting mad and fighting?
