I consider myself to be non partisan and a strategic voter. I appreciate the efforts of those who came before me to assure this simple act of exercising my franchise. I am humbled by those who put their lives on the line to fight a war that was to guarantee a better, safer, more peaceful world free of fascism . I do pay attention to the individuals who do what I never would and that is to run for an elected office, and then I turn up on voting day and mark my ballot. I have for decades returned to my little world believing that whoever won the most votes would make good decisions in their elected capacity.
I have lived my entire life in a great country, where I have contributed, where I have ticked all the boxes in living an unremarkable life, educated, healthy, and free to live where I chose. I have read and listened to world news with growing alarm as countries fall into the clutches of bad leadership in distant places but never until this last administration south of us has it come to me how devastating election results can be. Those swayed by lies and rhetoric are as guilty as those who for whatever reason did not bother to be informed or to vote.
One vote per person, what difference can it make? More than you realize. This is a privilege of democracy and to not take the time to be informed on the issues and to not vote is to disregard all that has been done to assure your right to vote. There were so many signs of his rotten plans and evil intentions. Now key members of his party are admitting fear of him?! When something valued is taken by a system that is corrupt who speaks then? It is said we get the leaders we deserve. Make sure the deserving get your vote. And if those wonderful Canadians who are waiting hours in Advanced Polls are any indication, this ox has been gored and we will be heard.
